Hello everyone:
I would like to take this opportunity to share some information that has me very excited about the future direction of our medical office. As many of you may know, about 10 years ago I had the opportunity to associate with Dr. Henry Hogerman M.D. who was a real pioneer in the arena of preventive and nutritional medicine. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Hogerman who served as my mentor and guide into areas of medicine that were not taught in the conventional medical paradigm. Profoundly scientific, these approaches to preventive and nutritional healthcare are the perfect complement to the conventional modalities that are taught in the current medical system. Taken together, approaching health issues from a scientific preventive and nutritional direct and as well as the acute intervention that is sometimes necessary and ably provided by conventional medical care, we have the opportunity to extend the parameters of health and well-being to everyone.
I learned an enormous amount from Dr. Hogerman and he pointed me in the direction of further accumulation of knowledge. Over the intervening years, through conferences, journal publications, books, and not the least the input from very educated and knowledgeable patients, I have attempted to stay abreast of both standard and "alternative" approaches to optimal health. I have to mention here are the profound gratitude that I have two the most able medical assistant ever, Concha Hernandez.
In 2007 I had the remarkable opportunity to become acquainted with Dr. Christie Wrightson ND, RD. Dr. Wrightson is a naturopathic physician with an extraordinary educational background. She is a graduate of Bastyr University, one of the top naturopathic colleges in the country. After four years of training at Bastyr she did a year of internship and further training preceptor ships. Beyond this, she obtained training and the prestigious degree of registered dietitian (RD). For those of you who are not familiar with the designation of naturopathic medicine, this is basically standard and conventional medicine with an emphasis on the utilization of naturally occurring products and their application to health care. It is an extraordinarily important area of health care\medicine and I couldn't be more pleased than to have the opportunity to associate with Dr. Wrightson. Together I feel that we are able to offer the very best of preventive, nutritional, and conventional care to all of our patients. Additionally, I have to add, that it takes a great load off of my shoulders to not have to see all of the patients myself and to have another knowledgeable practitioner with whom to share information and ideas.
Also, I recently had the opportunity to become acquainted with Dr. John Paulus deal. Dr. Paulus has an extensive background in internal medicine and practiced both hospitals and outpatient medicine on the East Coast for over 20 years. He has a long list of credentials including being on the teaching faculty of the Virginia College of osteopathic medicine. Recently Dr. Paulus became a fellow of the Academy of antiaging medicine. He has recently moved to the east coast to be closer to his family and we are very fortunate to have him "come aboard" to join us in our office. Beyond his credentials, which are expensive, I have to comment that he is in my mind "a really nice guy".
As I mentioned at the outset, I am very excited about the possibilities of working in collaboration with doctors Wrightson and polish. In this context we have given our office a new name, the Integrative Medicine Center of Santa Barbara we feel that the name reflects what it is that we are attempting to offer, the combination of the best of nutritional, natural, and preventive health care with all of the standard modalities of medicine which we have been practicing for many years. I hope that you can understand my excitement in relation to the possibilities of this presents for the future. We welcome you to be a continued part of our collective practice as we move into the future.
Best regards,
Bob Young M. D.
